[edit]Early years

While attending St. Paul's Episcopal School in Mobile, Alabama, McCarron was recruited by several football programs in the Southeastern Conference, including Alabama, Auburn,Mississippi, and Tennessee.[1] He committed to the Crimson Tide on May 3, 2008, becoming the only quarterback signed by Alabama for their 2009 recruiting class.[2]

[edit]College career

In his first season at the university, McCarron accepted a redshirt and did not play during the season.[3][4]

[edit]Sophomore year

McCarron became the starting quarterback for the Crimson Tide in the 2011 season, following the departure of former starter Greg McElroy. In the 2012 BCS National Championship Game against the #1-ranked LSU Tigers, McCarron won Offensive MVP as Alabama won its 14th national title.

[edit]Junior year

In 2012, McCarron broke the Alabama record for consecutive passes without an interception. He led the team to the SEC title while finishing the regular season ranked first in the nation in passing efficiency. On December 12, 2012, it was announced that McCarron will return for his senior year. On January 7th, 2013, he won the 2013 BCS National Championship Game against Notre Dame, 42–14, becoming the first quarterback to win back to back BCS titles.

  1. ^ In 2003, LSU was awarded the BCS National Championship Trophy (instead of USC). This was the only year in the history of the BCS that the AP awarded another team as the national champion. McCarron is the first quarterback to win back to back BCS national championships.
